There are few things more difficult than writing an About page about … yourself.  So let’s just skip the bullshit and jump into the fray.  My name is Steven Vorholt, hence the title of the website, and I currently live in Columbus, Ohio.  I started this blog as a way to track my travels abroad for my family, and as a personal photo diary to look back and remember my trips.  Unfortunately due to a hosting mishap, all of my old blog posts and photos were erased.  I still have the photos, but not the stories I wrote down to share with them.  The kinds of stories you only remember when you’re prompted to remember.  After that I let this website sit empty for several months before finally deciding to revive it after I bought a new camera.  I purchased a Nikon D90 dSLR with the hopes of becoming an avid amateur photographer, and sharing my photos with my friends and family on my website.

I, admittedly, am not good at photography.  I know nothing more than I did with my old point n’ shoot Olympus camera (which I still carry around, because lugging a large dSLR is not always practical), but I’m learning quickly.  I have already seen an improvement with my photos in the 3 months I’ve had the camera.  I’m slowly picking up photoshop skills, but learning to frame pictures better from the get go and rely less on post-processing.

I like to travel.  I think this lends itself well to photography, since photographing my new room on campus can only be done so many different ways.  Just this past year I made it down to Florida, Gatlinburg, over to San Francisco twice, and Australia twice.  I’m planning to go to New York City for my first time later this year, and also a seventh trip to Australia for Christmas.  I’ve also been to Greece, Mexico, and Canada, though those last two are hardly anything to shout about.  I can’t wait to see New Zealand, England, Spain, Germany, France, Italy, Peru… just to name a few.

As I mentioned earlier, I reside in Columbus, Ohio.  Not the most glamorous of places, but I like it.  I grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio and made the trip to Cbus for undergrad at The Ohio State University.  Four years later, six months of which I studied in Australia (noticing a trend there?), I graduated with a B.S. in Microbiology.  After unsuccessfully applying to dental school that year I started working at Abbott Laboratories.  I worked there for a year before being accepted to The Ohio State University College of Dentistry Class of 2013 (wow that’s a mouthful – edit: no pun intended!).  Now my wish list includes a new lens and flash so I can take close up photos of my dental lab work and patient’s before and afters.  Many more dental-related posts and photos will be gracing this website starting in September 2009.
